Celebrate Free Comic Book Day Around Western Springs
The Thomas Ford Memorial Library will hand out free comics during the national event.

As all the cool nerds know, national Free Comic Book Day will take place May 2 this year, and comic book stores around the country are preparing to give away thousand of comics.
Chimera’s Comics expects to hand out 2,000 comics through its stores in La Grange, Oak Lawn, at a new location in Woodridge and at eight partnering businesses and libraries.

“Free Comic Book Day is our favorite event every year,” said Chimera‘s Comics co-owner Carmelo Chimera. “Fans will be able to choose from over 50 different titles, ranging from ‘Avengers’ to ‘Doctor Who’ to ‘Spongebob Squarepants.’”
In La Grange, Chimera’s Comics customers will receive Vino Bucks from Vino e Birra - La Grange, and a buy-one-get-one free coupon for Trugurt frozen yogurt at Di Nico’s Pizza, while supplies last, according to Chimera’s Comics on Facebook. Anyone who visits Isn’t That Sweet will get a free superhero cookie with every purchase.

The La Grange shop is located at 19 S. La Grange Road.
The business has also partnered with the La Grange Public Library, La Grange Park Public Library, Brookfield Public Library, Thomas Ford Memorial Library and Hinsdale Public Library, which will also pass out free comics May 2.
“I love this holiday because the selection of books shows that there’s something for everyone - boys and girls, young and old,” said Chimera’s Comics co-owner Steven Brown. “It really bring the community together.”
The Oak Lawn Public Library has organized the first annual FanFest to coincide with Free Comic Book Day.
“FanFest is going to be a great event,” Chimera said. “The OLPL has planned panelists, exhibitors, and entertainment. We’re proud to partner with them on this event and provide free comic books.”

- Hellfire Comics, 240 Chicago Ridge Mall, Chicago Ridge
- Defiant Comics, 7234 Madison St., Forest Park
