Chicago, Berwyn Men Tie, Palos Park Woman Wins Riverside Independence Day 5K

Men from Chicago and Berwyn tied for first place in Riverside’s Independence Day 5K race on July 4.
Hector Lopez, 21, of Berwyn, and Steven Bugarin, 28, of Chicago, finished the race in a dead heat, clocking in at 16:16.
Ashley Shares, 22, of Palos Park, was the top female runner, finishing the race with a time of 19:01.

The race ended and started at the Historic Water Tower that took runners up Akenside and Northwood to Northgate, Selborne and Parkway Roads and finally down Longcommon Road to the finish line.
Race sponsors included Children’s Dentistry, Competitive Foot, Sports Authority, Riverside Foods, Salon Elia, Denn Georgopulos State Farm, Road ID, Jewel-Osco, H&H Industrial Motor Services, Jewel-Osco, and McDonald’s of Lyons.
