Children Invited to Predict the Future
When Western Springs buries its time capsule in September, it will include local children's predictions of the year 2086.

If you’ve driven by the Western Springs Water Tower lately, you’ve probably noticed that some new planters and decorative stone walls have been added. But, still to come is a time capsule that will be buried between the two planters this coming September. It will be opened during 2086, the 200th anniversary of the village’s founding.
The Historical Society has been asked to select items to be placed in the capsule. While it will include such things as local newspapers, current photos of the village, a collection of local restaurant menus, and local business advertisements, the Society also plants to collect short essays from today’s school children describing what they think the year 2086 will be like and what will have changed from today.
Submissions should be on an 8½ by 11 inch sheet of paper. The writer’s name, age, and address should be shown at the bottom of the page.
