Fast Facts: Two trips to the state tournament are on the line when the winners of the semifinals meet Saturday. On the boys side, Brother Rice is aiming for its third straight trip to state, but the Crusaders will likely have to go through Lyons. The 2012 state champs have not returned to state since, but are 27-4 and ranked fourth in the state by illpolo.com. Stagg (29-2) has been one of the biggest surprises in the state and will challenge Lyons. Stagg and St. Rita are looking for their first-ever trip to state.
On the girls side, Lyons is in the same position as the boys, looking for its first trip to state since winning a state title. For the girls team, that came in 2010. Mother McAuley is the favorite in the other semifinal, hoping to reach the state tournament for the fifth consecutive season. The Macs placed fourth last year. Hinsdale Central and Stagg, both heavy underdogs in the semifinals, have never reached the state tournament.
