WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A family dog died in a house fire early Saturday afternoon in Western Springs, the village said in a news release.

Firefighters said they responded to the fire shortly after noon in the 4000 block of Western Avenue. They said they could see smoke and fire coming from the back of the house.

The firefighters discovered the fire in the kitchen, which is in the back of the house, the village said.

No one was in the house, and the fire was quickly put out, according to the news release. The fire's cause is under investigation.

No firefighter was injured in responding to the fire, the village said.

Western Springs was assisted by the Hinsdale Fire Department and Pleasantview Fire Protection District.
