Youth Traveling Basketball Team Tryouts

The Western Springs Recreation Department will hold tryouts for its boys’ and girls’ traveling basketball teams.   The teams are known as the BLAZERS (boys) and WILDCATS (girls).  The travel program focuses on player skill development necessary for competitive basketball, and there is more emphasis on winning than in the recreation basketball programs.  Players are not guaranteed equal playing time during games.  The season runs from October through early March.  A commitment to team practices and games is a critical element for the success of the team and the satisfaction gained by the players.  Parents must consider their child’s time and ability to make such a commitment.

Children trying out must be in the proper grade and live in Western Springs or attend school in District #101, #106 or St. John of the Cross.  There is no charge to tryout but those making the teams will be charged a program fee.  To register for tryouts call 708-246-9070 ext 418 and leave the child’s gender, grade, name, address, phone number and parents’ names.  Come ready to play. 

All tryouts are held in the WS Recreation Center Gym, 1500 Walker St.  The schedule is:

Boys: Saturday, September 22, 2010

                  7^th grade boys at 8:30 am

                  6^th grade boys at 9:30 am

                  5^th grade boys at 10:30 am

                  4^th grade boys at Noon

                  There may be “Call Backs” on Sunday, Sept 23. Time to be determined.

Girls: Saturday, September 29

                  8^th grade girls at 8:30 am

                  7^th grade girls at 9:30 am

                  6^th grade girls at 10:30 am

                  5^th grade girls at 11:30 am
