Five La Grange Businesses Planning Job Fair This Tuesday

With the economy on the rebound five business owners in La Grange suddenly find themselves in need of hiring some new people.

The five business -- the La Grange Theater, Q-BBQ, the Hot Dog Company, Ace Hardware and Horton’s Home Lighting -- are teaming up to host the “Downtown LaGrange Job Fair,” from 9 to 11:30 a.m.. Tuesday, August 19.

The job fair will be held in the lobby of the LaGrange Theater, 80 S. La Grange Road, La Grange..

The La Grange firms are looking to fill 25 positions between them. Q-BBQ and Horton’s have openings in other locations as well.

“We all have the same philosophy of wanting to support the community,” said John Rot, owner of the La Grange Theatre. “We thought this was a way to reach out to the community and our customers. The economy is improving and our businesses are starting to grow again.”

The five-company job fair has many full-time and part-time jobs available, including cashiers and store managers, warehouse, sales, customer service, administrative, kitchen help and servers in the retail, restaurant and theater industries.

All candidates are encouraged to attend the job fair regardless of industry experience.

Rot says their companies are different because they focus on the employee’s personal and professional development, with a strong focus on teamwork. The businesses have a training plan designed to help new employees succeed and grow.

“We share the belief in hiring the right people and believing in people,” Rot said. “We can teach people the skills they need for the job. ”

Interested candidates should be prepared to answer why they want to work at one of the five businesses and to share stories of their experiences and successes.

“We want people to come and tell us about themselves,” Rot said. “We want to learn about them. We’re there to listen.”

Resumes aren’t necessary for some of the positions, but if you have a resume, a hard copy of your work history with contact information, or a business card -- bring it with you. Attendees will have the opportunity to fill out an application and meet the key managers.

Senior level candidates will be seen from 9 to 10 a.m.; the fair will be open to all other candidates, including senior level, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
