The incident was said to have occurred Jan. 8. The man's basement was flooded, which was a common problem that day.
According to the report, the man took a video of his basement being flooded and him kicking the sump pump. He sent it to the family members of a 68-year-old Porter, Indiana, woman, police said.
The woman told police that she and others went to the man's house. As they approached the front door, the man met them outside, police said. The report's next part, which may have included the nature of the battery allegation, was redacted.
On Jan. 18, an officer called the man to say a criminal charge had been filed against him and that he needed to be taken into custody.
The man said he would turn himself in at the police station. He did so less than an hour later. The man was released pending a court date.
