Grand-Burlington Electric Vehicle Charging Station Now Open

Two electric vehicles simultaneously can be serviced at the new station.

The Village is excited to announce that the new electric vehicle station at the northwest corner of Burlington Avenue and Central Avenue is live for public use. The ChargePoint station is classified as a Level 2 commercial station which has the ability to service two electric vehicles simultaneously.

The two spaces immediately west of Grand Avenue have been reclassified as EV parking only. The installation of the charging station is accompanied by a new bike shelter and brick paver improvements. These improvements are part of the second project utilizing a portion of the $175,000 in West Suburban Mass Transits District (WSMTD) grant funds, obtained by the Village in 2016.

The ChargePoint stations require drivers to download the ChargePoint app (available for iPhone and Android) and register before using it. The Village will begin a 6-month pilot program to collect usage data, review energy costs, and determine trends. The current fee structure allows for a maximum of 3 hours of free charging, with a $20/hour charge incurred after 3 hours. Upon completion of the 6-months, the Village will review the fee structure and all data collected.

The Village of Western Springs is excited to join Oak Park, Elmhurst, Naperville, and Oak Brook as one of the few communities in the area to support alternative energy sources through public electric vehicle charging stations.
