No roofing contractors have sought solicting permits yet.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β Western Springs received intense hail Tuesday night, but it wasn't as severe as in some neighboring towns, according to the village.
On Wednesday, nearby Darien put residents on alert for roofing scammers. The city said it had received numerous requests for door-to-door solicitor licenses from roofing companies.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Western Springs had not received any requests for peddling permits from roofing or home improvement contractors, the village's spokeswoman, Selmin Cicek, said in an email to Patch.

Under Western Springs rules, any non-charity that goes door-to-door selling requires a peddler's permit.
Interested parties must complete an application, sign an indemnity and hold harmless statement, pay a fee, and display a copy of their permit while out peddling, according to the village.

Distributing door hangers does not require any permits. However, hangers must not be placed, nor should any peddling occur, when a βNo Solicitingβ sign is posted at a home, the village said.
Daniel Eftimoff, an insurance adjuster from La Grange, said a lot of contractors come out of the woodwork after storms. Many legitimate companies are out there, he said.
"I'm skeptical of those who are headquartered out of state and who have flimsy business cards that show some local address when they just came over from three states over," Eftimoff said in an interview. "Google is your friend. I don't want to see people get taken advantage of."
