LT administrators take over classroom duties for good cause

Faculty and staff have donated nearly $11,000 for senior scholarships

Instead of crunching numbers and counting dollars, Lyons Township High School Director of Business Services Brian Stachacz spent one day last week explaining the Industrial Revolution and describing the atrocities under Joseph Stalin, while Advanced Placement European History teacher Jessica Drogos was granted a day off. Drogos’s name was drawn in the LT Scholarship Raffle Contest for the opportunity of having an administrator walk and work in her shoes for a day. Stachacz, a certified and former history teacher, enjoyed getting back in front of students again. He said, “I forgot how much I miss the classroom. The students were terrific; they were engaged and great listeners and participants in the discussion.”

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the LT Scholarship Raffle Contest, which is open to all employees who contribute to the fund. Each year 8-10 names are drawn in the raffle. Before year’s end, Superintendent Dr. Timothy Kilrea will work for Student Support Counselor Anne Strickland and Principal Dr. Brian Waterman will take over history teacher Ben LaFontaine’s classes.

So far this year, faculty and staff have donated nearly $11,000 for senior scholarships. This money will be awarded at the Senior Honors Day Assembly in May. If parents or community members are interested in donating to the LT Scholarship Fund, mail a check made out to LTHS General Scholarship Fund, to the LTHS College Center Room 148, 100 S. Brainard Ave., LaGrange, IL 60525. Donations may be made in honor of current or former teachers, and they will be notified that a donation has been made in their name to the LTHS General Scholarship Fund.
