LT Badminton Coach named Illinois Coach of Year

Sue McClenahan named Illinois Badminton Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Lyons Township High School varsity badminton coach Sue McClenahan, who was named the 2014-15 National Federation of High Schools Badminton Coach of the Year for the state of Illinois. With this honor, she is automatically nominated for the national coach of the year honors.

McClenahan led the LT Lions to their first team trophy with a 3rd place state finish in 2013-14. Last year, she helped organize and host an Orange Crush event, a fundraiser that encouraged players and non-players to participate in a game or two of badminton to help raise money for the Leukemia Society, whose color theme is orange. The guest of honor was an LT student and member of the badminton team, who was battling leukemia for the second time.

According to LT Athletic Director John Grundke, “Coach McClenahan continues to make improvements each and every year to help the girls in the program have a great experience. She was the first coach in the history of the IHSA badminton state finals to have one player win the state singles tournament three years in a row.”
