LT to participate in National African American Read-In
Thursday, February 26, 7pm at the North Campus Community Room (room 140)

In honor of Black History Month, Lyons Township High School will be hosting an African American Read-In 7pm Thursday, February 26, in the Community Room (Room 140) at North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., LaGrange.
As host of a read-in, LTHS will be added to the national database of participants and given a certificate of completion as evidence of our role in making literacy a significant part of Black History Month. We invite all students, staff, and community members to select and read a 2 – 3 minute piece (e.g. excerpts from books, speeches, poems, plays, etc.) authored by an African American.
The Read-In program began in 1990 when Dr. Jerri Cobb Scott, a member of the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), founded the first African American Read-In. One year later, the NCTE and the International Reading Association partnered with NCTE’s Black Caucus to sponsor African-American Read-Ins nationwide. Over one million readers of all ethnic groups, from 50 states, the District of Columbia, West Indies, and African countries have participated. The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.
