LT senior puts sewing skills to good use
LT student puts her sewing skills to work and will help make the holidays a bit warmer for a few lucky people in need

Lyons Township High School senior Erin Pouba, of Western Springs, made good use of left over fabric, put her sewing skills to work and will help make the holidays a bit warmer for a few lucky people in need.
Pouba is in an Independent Fashion and Interior Design course, where she turns her sketches into reality. This semester she made a top with a lace insert, a dress that transforms into a vest and pants that transform into a skirt. Having completed her course work and with just a few weeks left of the semester, she challenged herself with recycling material and making hats for the homeless. So far she’s made four winter hats using a combination of fabrics; four more are in the works.
“I’ve never made a hat before, but I thought it would be a great way to recycle scrap fabric, help others and practice my sewing skills,” Pouba said.

The hats will be donated to Beds Plus, an organization giving the homeless a safe place to sleep, hot homemade meals, professional counseling, and the job services they need to become self-sufficient.
