LT Soccer Rolls Over Red Devils in Sectionals, 5-0

Lions will seek revenge for WSC championship loss against York on Friday.

Lyons Township's girls soccer team didn't waste any time in making its mark in Tuesday's Class 3A York Sectional.

The Lions scored just 47 seconds into their semifinal match against Hinsdale Central and then rolled on from there.

Coach Bill Lanspeary's squad added two more goals in the first half and went on to claim a 5-0 victory in Elmhurst. The win advances LT (20-4-1) to Friday's 4:30 finals against York (20-4-1), which beat Oak Park and River Forest 2-1 in three overtimes.

On May 10, the Dukes beat the Lions 3-2 in two overtimes in Elmhurst to clinch the West Suburban Conference Silver Division championship.

"I thought we played real well," Lanspeary said. "We got lucky and got a couple of breaks early and finished them and that changed the game.

"What was nice to see was that not only did we get off to a fast start but we kept it up. Our backs did a nice job of limiting their chances."

Lauren Moberg scored a pair of goals while Emily Lange, Abbie Pasquinelli and Sarah Mazur also connected for the winners. Emma Meyering, Kelsey Holbert, Ari Kowalski and Coco Corrigan all contributed assists for LT, which beat Hinsdale 2-0 on April 26.

Maggie Orlowski stopped a pair of threats by the Red Devils (11-12-2) late in the first half to assure her team of its 19th shutout.

Meyering assisted Lange to put LT ahead for good and Pasquinelli put in a rebound of a deflected shot by Holbert in the 25th minute.

Moberg collected her first goal in the 37th minute when she scored from close range following an assist from Kowalski.

LT scored a pair of goals just 31 seconds apart during the 45th minute to remove all doubts about the final outcome. Corrigan sent a pass to Moberg for the fourth goal and then Mazur scored unassisted a short time later for the Lions.

"It was real important that we stepped up against a good team today and played very well and put the game away," LT senior Elise Gordon said. "We're just trying to take everything one game at a time and not look too far ahead. We knew what we wanted to do today and accomplished it."
