LT students take part in German competitions, fun

Last weekend 19 Lyons Township High School German students from all grades and levels participated in the University of Illinois, Chicago’s German High School Day hosted by the Department of Germanic Studies. German teachers and their students from throughout the Chicago area participate in various German language competitions, visit undergraduate German classes, and take part in language games. Students participated in eight competitions, including skits, poetry and a spelling bee. Seventeen high schools from the Chicago area were represented, and LT placed in six of the eight competitions, taking two first-place, two second-place and two third-place trophies.

According to German teacher and German Club sponsor Karen Hoobyar , “The day was truly a success! It was more than just good competition; it was a testimony to the solidarity German students share at LT.”
