LT to take icy plunge for a cool cause

55 students and teachers have committed to the 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge, February 18, at Clark Street Beach

The Lyons Township High School Polar Plunge team is taking an icy dip for acceptance, inclusion and fun as part of the 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge Sunday, February 18, at Clark Street Beach in Evanston. Already 55 students and teachers have committed to “be bold and get cold” for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois by taking an icy plunge into the frigid winter waters.

To date, they are more than half way to their donation goal of $20,000. Consider joining the team or supporting their efforts by making a donation. Any amount is appreciated – it all goes to one “cool” cause. The top two fundraising participants will get to shave the heads of LT’s faculty organizers, Aviation teacher Dave Root and Special Education teacher Brian Wolf. Best of all, donations help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics programs.

Last year, LT’s group raised more than $15,000 and for the fifth consecutive year was named the "Cool School," an award given to the K-12 school that raises the most amount of money. The team was also named "Golden Plungers," for the fourth consecutive year for being the overall team that raises the most amount of money.

The cold experienced is temporary; the positive impact this event makes on the lives of Special Olympics athletes across Illinois will last a lifetime.
