LT Education Organization Investigating Treasurer's $100K Cash-In

The organization, which serves D204, D101 and and D106, among other school districts, has hired a firm to look into $100,000 collected for unused days off by one of its employees.

The Lyons Township Trustees of Schools, based in La Grange Park and involved with investing money for 13 school districts or agencies, plans to hire a law firm to look into more than $100,000 cashed in by its treasurer for unused vacation, sick and personal time, according to the Better Government Association.

The treasurer, Robert Healy, collected the money without telling school trustees, according to the BGA”s “The Public Eye” column. Agency officials told BGA investigators they want to find out what rules Healy violated, if any, and whether the payout was excessive.

Healy makes a salary of more than $100,000, according to the BGA.

The school treasurer's office is at 930 Barnsdale Road in La Grange Park.

The Lyons Township Trustees of Schools serves Lyons Township High School District 204; La Grange Grade School Districts 102 and 105; Highland School District 106; and the La Grange Area Department of Special Education. Also, Western Springs Grade School District 101 and Pleasantdale School District 107 in Burr Ridge, according to its website.

The Township Trustees of Schools system was created in 1819 by the Illinois General Assembly to administer school finances and any other business that may present itself in the financial operations of the school districts within the various townships, according to the school agency’s website. Trustees were given the power to appoint a qualified person to act as township school treasurer.
