LTHS astronomy students visit Arizona observatory

Astronomy students get glimpse at western sky

Sixteen seniors from Lyons Township High School Astronomy classes and Astronomy Club had an opportunity to visit working observatories, meet with astronomers and participate in observations under sky conditions unavailable in the Midwest. On a 3-night trip to Arizona, students also had an opportunity to visit astronomy-related geological/cultural sites like Meteor Crater and Sunset Crater National Monument.

This was the 14th trip taken in the 21-year history of the LT Astronomy course. Students visited Lowell Observatory for an evening observation, followed by a visit to Grand Canyon National Park for another evening observation, then visited Kitt Peak National Observatory and the University of Arizona planetarium.
