LTHS School Supply Drive

LT senior, Eagle Scout collects school supplies for students in need

Good ideas run in the Althoff family. For the past two years, Lyons Township High School 2013 graduate Ellie Althoff collected gently used school supplies during finals week and donated them to a high school, where her aunt is a librarian. The aunt stores the supplies in the library and makes the items available throughout the year for students in need. This year, Ellie’s brother, LT senior Josh Althoff, is continuing the supply drive and hopes to improve upon the response from students. He has contacted all North Campus teachers and offered to provide specially marked donation boxes for classrooms and requested that an announcement about the drive be read to all classes. He is encouraging his fellow Lions to donate useful materials to those who need them. He’s requesting the following supplies in good, reusable condition:

· Binders
· Folders
· Notebooks
· Pencil Cases
· Non or Lightly-Annotated Books

This supply collection is doubling as Josh’s Eagle Scout Project. He’s counting on his fellow Scouts to help collect, sort and box the materials. Last year, the drive collected two mini-vans full of materials; Josh is hoping to need a moving van to transport all the materials this year.

Josh hopes that by placing collection boxes in individual classroom, it will generate an even bigger response. He also hopes to encourage a younger Scout to assist and take over the project next year.
