During a heat wave last August, the school struggled, moving as many students as possible into air-conditioned areas of campuses. One day, students were let out early.
At the time, a school spokeswoman said about half of North Campus, which serves juniors and seniors, was air-conditioned. After the improvements, 56 percent of South's classrooms will be air-conditioned, the school said.
Neighboring Hinsdale Central and South are mostly air-conditioned. The exceptions are the field house and main gym at both schools. At Central, the hallways are also without air conditioning.
