LTHS supports Special Olympics with plane pull

The team raised just more than $1,500 for Special Olympics Illinois

A team of Lyons Township High School aviation students was just one of 85 groups to support Special Olympics Illinois in a big and heavy way recently. At O`Hare International Airport, the 9th annual Plane Pull took place Saturday, with teams competing for the title to see who can pull one of two jets, a total of 12 feet, the fastest. The two jets were an Airbus A300 and a Boeing 737-900.

Aviation teacher Dave Root and Engineering and Small Engines teacher Josh Nabasny took 17 aviation students to O’Hare Airport to take part in the Plane Pull. LT’s team successfully pulled an Airbus A300, which weighs approximately 300,000 lbs., the required distance. The team also raised just more than $1,500 for Special Olympics Illinois, an organization that the Aviation Program has been fundraising with for the past six years through Plane Pull and Polar Plunge events.
