More Eyes For Western Springs Cops
The police department plans to buy different types of cameras, an official said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – By 2025, Western Springs police will have a lot more cameras at their disposal, an official said this week.
At a Village Board meeting, Trustee Scott Lewis said the police department will buy 21 body cameras for officers. State law requires departments to have them by Jan. 1, 2025.
The department will also purchase eight in-car cameras that will be able to communicate with officers' body cameras, he said.

"We've received state funding that will help offset much of the finalized costs," Lewis said.
He said the police also aim to buy five license plate readers that will be placed around town.

"The readers will capture license plate details and other identifying information about vehicles suspected of being used to commit crimes," Lewis said.
The village is getting a $56,000 grant from the Illinois Attorney General's Office to buy the readers, he said.
