Nazareth Academy Basketball Coach to be Inducted into Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame

Nazareth Academy congratulates Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach John Bonk, who will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a Career Coach on Saturday, May 3. The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame was founded in 1973 to honor the best and most influential players, teams, coaches, media, officials, and friends of basketball in Illinois history. Since then, a new Hall of Fame class has been inducted every year.

John has been coaching high school basketball since 1980. He was Head Basketball Coach at Weber High School (1985/86 – 1995/96) and St. Rita School (1996/97 – 2005/06) before coming to Nazareth in 2006.

“Over the last 9 years John Bonk has done an exceptional job in preparing our student athletes for the East Suburban Catholic Conference. He is an outstanding coach and mentor to the young men in our basketball program. He is a true role model on and off the court. This is not only a great honor for John and his family but also for Nazareth Academy,” says Nazareth Academy President, Dennis Moran.
