New Trustee Picked In Western Springs

A real estate agent filled the seat previously held by the new village president.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A real estate agent is the newest member of the Western Springs Village Board.

Amy Avakian is filling the trustee seat that was held by Heidi Rudolph, who was appointed village president last month after the sudden death of Alice Gallagher. Avakian was appointed Monday.

According to the village, Avakian was one of five interested in the trustee position. The village did not release the others' names.

Avakian grew up in Hinsdale, attended Hinsdale Central High School and completed an undergraduate degree from the business school at Indiana University.

After starting a family, she returned to the western suburbs and launched her real estate career in 2003, according to a village statement.

The village said Avakian is involved in the community, local school districts, social clubs and charitable organizations.

She served as a member of the village's Transportation and Safety Commission.

She and her husband live in Western Springs' Old Town South neighborhood with their three children.

Phil Nawrocki, who ran unopposed in the April election, is set to be sworn in as a trustee at the board's May 22 meeting.

So are trustees Nicole Chen and Al Fink, who were re-elected without opposition.
