The village agreed to start paying a group for taking care of animals.

Western Springs worked with La Grange and La Grange Park to strike a deal to pay $375 for each animal it sends to the shelter.

To get an animal back, the owner must show proof of payment to the village for charges related to impounded animals, according to the memo.

"We could recover a good portion of the fees charged," Trustee Scott Lewis said. "It's also worth mentioning that our police department usually finds the owners of stray animals before it transports them to the Hinsdale Humane Society."

Lewis also said the village determined it had no other good options available.
