WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police report only a handful of crimes each week, fewer than its neighbors such as Darien, Hinsdale and La Grange.

That may prompt one to wonder whether higher-ups have directed clerks on what to include in the weekly blotter issued to the media.

Through a public records request, Patch requested any memo, email or document with rules about what to release to the public. The village said it had no such document.
