Patch Picks: Five Civic Meetings To Make A Difference
Governing is no mystery. Meetings are open to the public. Get a grip on what's going on and get in front of decision makers. Here are a few times, dates and places to start.

What? An ordinance passed and you don’t like it? Did you go to the meeting or speak to the decision-makers? Pack up your pitchforks, extinguish those torches and find your voice. Here are five meetings you can attend to get informed and make a difference.
1. Get curling class added to the catalog. The Western Springs Recreation Department is meeting on Monday, August 29 at 7 p.m.
at 1500 Walker. The Recreation Department offers programs for people of all ages, and also has programs for seniors and people with special needs. Classes are hosted in two facilities at 1500 Walker and Grand Avenue School. The Department also maintains those facilities. For more information call 708-246-9070
2. The movers, the shakers, the decision-makers. The Western
Springs Board of Trustees will hold their regular meeting on Monday, September 26, at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall, 740 Hillgrove Avenue. The Trustees are your elected officials and they would love to see you. Still not sure you wantto miss “Real Housewives” to get to the meeting? The minutes are posted online once the Board approves them. For more information call the clerk’s office at 708-246-1800. If you want a virtual experience, the meetings are televised live on Comcast Channel 6 and AT&T U-verse 99.

The park board manages the facilities and budgets for all twelve parks within the village—that’s a lot of responsibility—and a lot of green! Feel free to contact them at 708-246-4225 with questions.
4. You get a second chance to make a first impression. The La Grange Board of Trustees meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall, 53 South La Grange Road. The next two meetings will be on September 12 and September 26. Mark your calendars now so you can plan the Palmer’s after-party.
5. For extraordinary ordinances and a variety of variances. The La Grange Plan Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the La Grange Village Hall. The Plan Commission approves permits and development plans, and amends Zoning Codes. The Commissioners like apple pie (wink, wink).
