The April cruise around the world destination is Haiti. Guest speaker Dr. Karen Richman, a director in the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame will give a presentation that includes Haitian history and culture, and busting some myths. Residents are encouraged to share any memorabilia and to bring passports to be stamped.
Saturday, 4/4: Passenger Pigeon Movie & Discussion with Director David Mrazek, Dole Hall 3:00pm
An award-winning documentary, From Billions to None: The Passenger Pigeon’s Flight to Extinction, reveals the compelling story of the unlikely extinction of the passenger pigeon and explores the pigeon’s striking relevance to conservation issues today, such as the alarming depletion of shark species worldwide. Directed by David Mrazek, the film garnered its first film festival award, the Broadcast Award, at the American Conservation Film Festival. David will be present to answer questions following the 60 minute movie.
Saturday, 4/4: Singing Men of Oak Brook, Dole Hall 7:15pm
The Singing Men of Oak Brook is a non-denominational Christian ministry men’s chorus of some 35 voices whose members represent all walks of life and church backgrounds.

Join LaVerne for an hour of Classic Oldies with hits from the ‘40s to the ‘60s.
Thursday, 4/9 and Friday, 4/10: AARP Smart Driver Course, Lower Level Fitness Room 1-5pm
Anyone who completes the best refresher course designed for drivers 50 and older will be eligible for an insurance discount. Cost for the two day, 8-hour class is $15 for AARP members, and $20 for non-members. Please bring the money to the first class. Reservations needed.
Thursday, 4/9: Making Sense of Memory Loss, Pt. 1, Dole Hall 3:00pm and 6:00pm
Daniel Kuhn, LCSW, will present “Why Do We Forget and What Can be Done About It”? This program addresses causes of memory loss and problems with thinking. Ways to reduce or treat these problems and cope with their challenges will be explained, based on the latest research.

The new show, “Comic Sketches”,was created by award winning speaker and SAG-AFTRA actor Jeannie Rapstad. It is a compilation of hilarious sketches taken from her own life as well as fictional characters and bits that she created over the years as a stand-up comic.

Don’t miss this opportunity to entertain your friends and help fund the Plymouth Place library for the next year. Barbara Rinella, the noted book dramatist and favorite of Plymouth Place residents, will present “The News Sorority” by Sheila Weller. We will meet Diane Sawyer, Christiane Amanpour, and Katie Couric with all of their trials and triumphs as they challenge the boys in the news room. Tickets are available through donations to the library. Seats will be open to the general public beginning April 4.

Daniel Kuhn, LCSW, returns to present “When Is the Right Time to Help?” This program will address how to best meet the needs of someone with progressive memory loss. Ways to balance between need for independence and need for safety and supervision, and issues like driving a car will be addressed.
