Resident Dr. Ray Schlueter presents a DVD about Dr. Melanie Joy’s book Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism. Discussion follows.

Thursdays, 9/3, 10, 17, 24: Bible Study: “Jesus Is the Question”, 2nd Floor Multi-purpose Room 2:00pm

In the four gospels, Jesus asks 307 different questions. By contrast, Jesus is asked only 183 questions. Of those, he directly answers only 3. Why did Jesus ask so many questions and answer so few? What sort of questions did he ask? What might our answers be to the questions Jesus asked? Come, see, learn, grow and enjoy.

The 4th Annual Assisted Living Exhibit will show you it’s never too late to create something of beauty. Enjoy the talents of the residents of Assisted Living. The residents participate in art classes offered by our own in house Art Therapist Anita Martin of the Life Enrichment Department. Many of which are first time artists. Refreshments will be served.

Popular Art Historian Jeff Mishur of Art Excursions returns to Dole Hall, presenting a vibrant slide-lecture featuring the art work resulting from the sensational marriage of Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, who enjoy wide popularity in the U.S. as well as Mexico.

“Working Vacations, Digging Dinosaurs”, presented by resident Karen Nordquist. Karen, a volunteer at the Field Museum will take you on a virtual scientific discovery of fossil digs in North America.

A Sentimental Journey Through Song & Dance features the vocals of Nora Drysch singing standards from the Big Band Era and beyond while professional dancers Margaret and Alex Arteaga demonstrate both smooth and Latin ballroom styles including waltz, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, swing, tango, bolero, rumba, cha-cha, and mambo.

Friday, 9/25: Egypt Travelogue with Bill Helmuth, Dole Hall 3:00pm

Egypt is a history book that has survived itself over 5000 years of Pharohs, battling empires, and religious conflicts. It owes its destiny to the Nile River which collects 95 % of its people within 5 miles of its banks. Bill will take you on a special tour, walking the mysterious streets of Cairo, home to 22,000,000 people, its colossal pyramids and Sphinx. We will visit the old villages, where life had not changed for 100s of years and try to understand how Egypt fits into the current puzzle of the middle east dilemma.

Wednesday, 9/30: Medication Reconciliation, Dole Hall 10:00am

Sponsored by Aging Care Connections and Aging Well, the Medication Reconciliation is a 2-hour program presented by the UIC School of Pharmacy. It consists of a 30-minute presentation of medication safety, high blood pressure screenings, and then a one-on-one medication review with pharmacy students. Registration is required to attend.
