Post Office Theft, No Contact: Western Springs Cops

Someone pried open the mailboxes next to the village post office, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police released their latest blotter Monday. Here is information from the reports:

Post office theft

  • Two mailboxes on the west side of the Western Springs post office, 4479 Lawn Ave., were pried open. It was unknown how much mail was removed. The crime was discovered about 8 a.m. Monday.

Violation of no-contact order

  • James J. Connolly, 35, of Crystal Lake, was arrested about 6 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Race Street on a charge of a violation of a protection order. He was accused of texting a person who has an order of protection that forbids all communication.

Retail theft

  • A man rolled a grocery cart to his car and stole items in it about 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mariano's, 4700 Gilbert Ave.

  • A driver told police that her car was hit by another that turned left in front of her as she was driving east on 47th Street about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect's car was turning from Wolf Road, with the driver departing after the crash. The first driver's car sustained front passenger quarter panel damage.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 5000 block of Lawn Avenue told police July 23 that someone attempted $3,000 in fraudulent charges and an address change on his bank account.
  • A resident in the 4500 block of Lawn Avenue told police Wednesday that $400 in fraudulent charges were made to his credit card Wednesday.
