Shapiro Resigns D204 School Board, Applications Open to Fill Vacancy

Applications must be received no later than 3 p.m., Sept. 3.

Lyons Township High School District 204 Board of Education member Todd Shapiro submitted his resignation Monday, and the board is looking to fill the vacant seat.

The unexpired term runs until April 2017, according to the board.

Shapiro was first elected to the board in 1995 and he served until 2007. He won a seat again from 2009 until now. He was the chairperson of the technology committee and a member of the curriculum, finance and negotiations committees, according to the board website.

He also served as secretary in 1995, vice president in 1997 and president from Nov. 1999 to Nov. 2001.

“Todd is a fierce advocate for education and for all students. His expertise in finance has helped the district continue to spend and save wisely for nearly two decades. It has been my pleasure to work beside such a dedicated leader,” said superintendent Tim Kilrea in a statement. “He will be sorely missed.”

Residents interested in applying for the vacant position must be at least 18 years old, have lived in the district for at least one year and be registered to vote.

A candidate application packet is available on the Lyons Township High School website, or it may be picked up from clerk of the board Joyce Marine in the Superintendent’s Office, North Campus, Room 105, 100 S. Brainard Ave., La Grange.

Applications must be received no later than 3 p.m., Sept. 3. Late applications will not be accepted.
