Skimming Device On Western Springs ATM: Cops

In another case, an unlocked car and garage were reported burglarized earlier this month in a Western Springs neighborhood, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – In recent days, Western Springs police handled cases involving identity theft, burglary, porch piracy, theft, drugs and driving violations. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Identity theft

  • A repairman found a skimming device Wednesday on an ATM at PNC Bank, 40 47th St. Such devices can pick up data on credit and debit cards. Patch has filed a public records request for the police report. PNC Bank spokeswoman Maria Pasic told Patch in an email, "The security of our customers’ accounts is our top priority. We are investigating a potential fraud issue affecting a PNC ATM. Any customers who notice suspicious activity on their accounts should contact us right away using the number listed on the back of their PNC ATM card or at abuse@pnc.com."

Burglary

  • Someone entered a car and a garage, both unlocked, and stole a TV and a speaker in the 4000 block of Gilbert Avenue. The items were valued at $425. The theft was reported Aug. 2.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 3900 block of Woodland Avenue told police Wednesday that someone opened a utility account with her Social Security number.
  • A resident in the 4000 block of Franklin Avenue told police Wednesday that someone obtained one of his business checks and rewrote it.

  • Someone stole a package in a driveway between Aug. 7 and Aug. 10 in the 5200 block of Howard Avenue. The contents were valued at $175.

Theft

  • An unlocked bicycle was reported stolen Saturday from bike racks in the 4900 block of Willow Springs Road. The bike was valued at $300.

Drugs

  • Raymond Bryant, 29, of Hazel Crest, was cited about 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at Ogden and Grove avenues on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and driving with an expired registration.

Driving violations

  • A 35-year-old woman from Justice was cited about 8 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 500 block of 55th Street on charges of driving with a suspended registration and driving an uninsured car.
  • A 50-year-old man from Evergreen Park was cited about 1 p.m. Aug. 8 in the 5400 block of Wolf Road on charges of driving with no valid driver's license and driving with an expired registration.
  • A 39-year-old man from Aurora was cited about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Ogden and Central avenues on charges of driving with a suspended license and driving with an expired registration.

Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
