Men and women aged 18 and older who wish to act on stage or help backstage at the Theatre of Western Springs (TWS) are invited to a special introductory workshop called Studio or TWS 101. Taught by Executive Artistic Director Eddie Sugarman, the 10-session class takes place September 6 – 18, 2022, at the theatre, 4384 Hampton Ave., Western Springs.
"We welcome people of all experience levels to join us,” Sugarman said. “Studio graduation is the only way to be cast in a play at TWS. It’s also a wonderful acting workshop and an opportunity to make new friends.”

Sugarman describes Studio as “TWS Bootcamp,” during which participants work on and perform monologues and short scenes and learn about the different technical/design areas of the theatre. Studio 1 culminates in a final presentation of scenes to which participants can invite family and friends.
Studio costs $60. This fee is applied to a subscription for TWS’s 94th season, 2022 – ‘23, which is required. Once a person has graduated from Studio and purchased a six-play subscription, he or she is eligible for casting. In addition, there is an expectation to work backstage in some capacity.

Eddie Sugarman received a BFA in Musical Theater from the University of Michigan and his master’s degree in Arts Administration from Drexel University where he is an adjunct faculty member. He was managing director of Berwyn’s 16th Street Theater, winner of the 2013 Broadway in Chicago Emerging Theatre Award. He has been the Executive Artistic Director for eight years at TWS.

- Thu 9/15 7pm-10:30pm
- Sat 9/17 9:00am-12noon
- Sun 9/18 9:00am – 1pm (run thru, presentation at 11:30am)
“Once a person has completed Studio 1, he or she is eligible for casting,” Sugarman said. “Then the fun begins.”
