With spring approaching, the Western Springs Music Club held its March 9th classical music program at the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. The program covered a range of compositions from the early 20th century to recent times. The performance included:
Cellist Victor Sotelo performed Intermezzo e Danza Finale from Gaspar Cassado’s “Suite for Solo Cello;”
Trio -- Dennis Smith (clarinet), Sid Samberg (viola) and Thomas Zoells (piano) -- performed five selections from Max Bruch’s “Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano;”

Pianist Margaret Hilgendorf performed Allegretto and Scherzando from Franz Shubert’s “Impromtu Opus 142;”
Organist Michael Surratt performed “Two Lenten Chorale Preludes” by J. S. Bach;

Pianist Louise Chan performed No. 4 from Frederic Rzewski’s “Four Piano Pieces;” and
Louise Chan (piano) and Kate Carter (violin) performed the Andantino movement from John Corigliano’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano.”
This performance, awakened and renewed our spirits as our thoughts turn toward spring.
