St. John of the Cross Parish School Service Project
St. John of the Cross Participates in an All School Service Project
Students at St. John of the Cross Parish School work to incorporate service into the curriculum. Each of the grade levels exemplify faith in action by completing many service projects. Just a few ways students give back to the community and other communities include:
- Sixth graders visit “Feed My Starving Children” to prepare food.
- Second graders donate baby items in conjunction with their “Breakfast with Baby Jesus Prayer Service.”
- Grade levels take turns preparing meals for the Port Ministries in Chicago twice a month.
- Student council hosts out of uniform days to benefit many not for profit organizations.
- Students donated over 700 pairs of jeans to homeless teens in the past and collect canned goods for local pantries at every school liturgy.
On November 13, 2017, the entire school participated in all school service project. Different grade levels made Christmas door decorations, rosaries, Gingerbread Houses, Christmas cards. These gifts will benefit the clients at BEDS and Helping Hand.
