Stolen Bikes, Gift Card Scam: Western Springs Cops

Two unlocked bicycles were stolen from a resident who was on vacation, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police released their latest blotter Tuesday. Here is information from the reports:

  • Two unlocked bicycles were reported stolen May 23 from an apartment building in the 4400 block of Lawn Avenue. The owner was on vacation. The total value was estimated at $650.
  • A resident in the 4800 block of Wolf Road reported May 24 about being the victim of a scam. The resident bought three gift cards totaling $900 in response to a text message purporting to be from Xfinity. Any request for payment in gift cards is nearly always fraud.
  • A 53-year-old man from Lyons was cited about 6:30 p.m. Friday at Grove and Ogden avenues on charges of no valid driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, defective windshield and speeding. He was released on bond.
  • A 54-year-old man of Indian Head Park was cited about 7 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert and Ogden avenues on charges of driving with a suspended license and expired registration. He was released on bond.
