System Malfunction Causes Lockdown At LT South Campus

A system malfunction caused Lyons Township High School South campus to be placed on a hard lockdown on Wednesday.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A system malfunction caused Lyons Township High School South campus to be placed on a hard lockdown on Wednesday. Police said the school has recently installed a Blue Point Notification system, which is similar to a fire pull station. If there is a police emergency, one can activate the system, which is located at several locations throughout the school.

Police said the system activated Wednesday morning at 9:25 a.m. and caused a lockdown. However, it appears the activation was a malfunction. The school was searched several times room-by-room by responding officers from Western Springs Police Department and surrounding communities before being determined to be safe.

According to a statement from the school, an all-clear was given at 10:20 a.m.
