Teen Boy Shot Friday After a Verbal Altercation Escalated in La Grange

Police say the boy's injuries were minor and there isn't any threat to the community.

A 16-year-old boy was shot Friday night after a “verbal altercation” escalated around Calendar Avenue and Sawyer Avenue, according to a La Grange Police Department news release.

At about 10:45 p.m. Friday, 911 callers said they heard three gunshots in that area.

The victim and his friends “intentionally went to that area of La Grange,” according to the release, and this was not a drive-by shooting or a random incident.

The boy went to the emergency room at La Grange Memorial Hospital, and police say his injuries were minor. A representative from the hospital called the police Friday at 10:56 p.m. to report the boy’s gunshot wound. The boy was treated and released that night, according to the release.

Police report there isn’t any threat to the La Grange community in relation to this shooting, and the investigation continues. Police ask anyone with information to call the La Grange Police Department’s Investigations Division at (708) 579-2333.
