Theatre of Western Springs Announces 89th Season

The Theatre of Western Springs has announced its line-up of plays for the 2017-18 season.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL - The Theatre of Western Springs has announced its line-up of plays for the 2017-18 season. The theatre said it will be celebrating 89 continuous years, and will feature the very best in local talent to perform a roster of amazing plays.

“This season is going to take everyone’s breath away!" said Eddie Sugarman, TWS Executive Artistic Director, in a release. “We’ve got the hilarious musical comedy “Nunsense,” a thrilling Holmes adventure with a female Sherlock, a Neil Simon comedy and so much more.”

The five Mainstage plays presented in the 404-seat mainstage theatre will include:

  • "Nunsense," the musical comedy hit by Dan Goggin. It will run from Sept. 7-17, 2017.
  • "Miss Holmes," by Christopher M. Walsh, which imagines that both Sherlock Holmes and Watson were female. It will run from Oct. 19-29, 2017.
  • "The Cure for Love," by Jay Berkow. It will run from Jan. 8-28, 2018.
  • "Jake's Women," by Neil Simon, a comedy about a writer in a mid-life crisis. It will run from April 19-29, 2018.
  • "Shakespeare in Hollywood," by Ken Ludwig, a comedy about Shakespeare's characters magically meddling with a real-life film production. It will run from May 31-June 10, 2018.

The Forum series also presents two plays each season, and the theatre said it provides audiences with a more challenging theatre experience. These plays are held in the 117-seat Cattell Theatre.

  • “Stage Kiss," by Sarah Ruhl, an edgy comedy about two actors with a history being cast as lovers. It is onstage Sept. 28 - Oct. 8, 2017. This play has mature language and themes.
  • "Radium Girls," by D.W. Gregory, a highly theatrical drama. It will be onstage Feb. 8 - 18, 2018.

Lastly "Annie, Jr.," will be put on by the Children's Theatre of Western Springs as a special holiday musical. It will run from Dec. 1-Dec. 10.

“Audiences are in for a ridiculous amount of laughs, music, suspense and drama during our spectacular 89th season,” said Sugarman in a release.
