Health & Fitness

This Week at PCWS

Join us for Theology & Brew, the continuation of our Jonah @NIGHT series, our annual Spaghetti Dinner and Sunday Worship.

So on Tuesday you braved the crowds to check out the new Mariano’s on its opening day.  There was work and school, errands and appointments.  Dinner to be made and homework to be supervised.  More snow on the way (seriously?!)…lots of things to keep your mind spinning and body busy carrying you through your day.  Did some of it pass by in a busy blur?  All too often we are so caught up in our daily tasks and “to do list” that we ignore the world around us and forget to make meaningful connections with others.

In a Lenten devotional this week, PCWS Associate Pastor Matthew Schmidt invites us to focus on what attracts our attention.  What are we focused on in our busy lives?  What motivates us?  Take some time to think about how you can pay attention to yourself, your loved ones, your neighbors and God in balanced and healthy ways.  Our Jonah @NIGHT series continues this Friday, March 14, at 7pm at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs.  Please join us for a deconstructed Bible study that uses provocative storytelling, hands-on activities and small group discussion to help people of all ages learn about the Bible.  Jonah @NIGHT meets every Friday in Lent at 7pm at PCWS.  All are welcome and you don’t have to attend the whole series.  Come when you can and join us for interesting discussion and another way to support a meaningful journey through Lent.  Questions?  Check the PCWS contact info below for how to reach us.

In addition to Jonah @NIGHT, there are several other interesting and exciting things happening in the life of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs this week.  Here we go:

Theology & Brew:  Wednesday, March 12 at 7pm, Smashburger

Theology & Brew is our monthly gathering where people of faith get together for a beverage, meal and conversation about a timely article, blog post or news story.  Come this week to reflect on Kathleen Mulhern's posting on the purpose of sermons---information, faith formation, or other ---in the modern church.  Open to everyone and we’d love for you to join us.  Smashburger is located at 1 N. LaGrange Road in LaGrange.  To receive the article for this week, please email tandbrew@presbyws.org and let us know you’ll be there!

Spaghetti Dinner:  Saturday, March 15 with seatings at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm

Western Springs is in for a treat on Saturday night as we host our annual Spaghetti Dinner.  All proceeds from the PCWS Spaghetti Dinner will go toward a Youth Summer Mission Trip.  Everyone is welcome to come enjoy delicious spaghetti (gluten free pasta also available) with homemade sauce, meatballs, garlic bread and salad.  Make your dessert selection from a variety of homemade cakes.  Come see PCWS transformed into an Italian restaurant and enjoy delicious food served by helpful and polite youth.  The food is really good and it’s a PCWS tradition.  Seatings are at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm.  Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children at the door.  Your family will love this dinner and we look forward to seeing you!  Thank you for your support of our youth and their mission trip!

Sunday, March 16:

·Worship with us at 9:30am:  Infant and toddler childcare provided in our nursery.  Sunday School available for children preschool – 6th grade.

·Lenten Fair at 10:30am:  Join us for the Lenten Fair as our Sunday School classes show the progress they have made on their mission projects.  The children have been working to collect money and useful supplies for local organizations, like the Constance Morris House and the Hinsdale Humane Society.  We’ll have a change to learn more about the children’s efforts and contribute to these worthy causes.

·Binge TV Sampler at 2pm:  Join us to find a cure for cabin fever with some entertaining tv favorites.  Come as you are to enjoy some great TV and snacks.

·Holy Yoga at 4pm:  All are welcome to Holy Yoga.  Cost is $10 per person, per session.  No registration involved, just come if you can.  Bring a mat if you have one.  If you don’t have a mat one will be provided.  Clear your head, engage your body and take some time for reflection and reenergizing with us on Sunday afternoon.
