Unapproved Sign Work Stopped In Western Springs
Some neighbors expressed concerns with the sign, but village officials are poised to approve it.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Earlier this year, Western Springs stopped the construction of a sign at Spring Rock Park.
The sign was being put up by the Western Springs Little League. But the village said the league had not submitted a request for it.
The sign is meant to promote the league's championships and sponsors.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, officials spoke about the league's sign request. They noted three neighbors spoke against it at a public hearing of the village's Plan Commission.
The residents cited the sign's size, height, aesthetics and the precedent for having such a sign in the park.

The commission set a number of conditions for the sign, including a prohibition on lighting it up.
At the Village Board meeting, Trustee Phil Nawrocki said the sign is in an area with tree coverage.
"Everyone seemed satisfied with what the Western Springs Little League had come up with," Nawrocki said.
Village President Heidi Rudolph said it seemed the neighbors' concerns were adequately addressed.
"There was some concern with where the sign is," she said. "You have to be well into the park to see it."
The board is expected to vote on a sign permit at a later meeting.
