West Suburban School Districts Host First 'Young Artists Show'

Western Springs District 101 and others will be represented in the May 2 show.

On May 2, more than 550 pieces of artwork created by local elementary and middle school students will be on display at Cheney Mansion (220 N. Euclid Avenue, Oak Park).

This free event is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For the first time, the 13 school districts that make up the West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence (WSCAE) are hosting the event to showcase K-8 student artwork from their 48 schools.

Student artists will be present to discuss their pieces during the display period, and a number of local professional artists from the surrounding communities will be on hand to view the artwork and provide feedback.

“The WSCAE school districts are proud to offer this showcase of the visual arts created by our incredibly talented students. We have equally strong art teachers, who are eager to come together in recognizing the hard work and creativity of so many young people. We look forward to welcoming the residents of our west suburban community for this event, in the beautiful setting of Cheney Mansion,” he said.
