Western Spring Keeps Low Coronavirus Rate

The village compares well with neighboring towns.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs still has a low rate of coronavirus cases compared to its neighbors. As of Sunday, Western Springs had 24 virus cases, up from 19 a week earlier, according to Cook County figures.

As of Sunday, Western Springs' number works out to 1.8 cases per thousand people, which compares well to nearby towns — 3.3 in Clarendon Hills, 3.5 in Elmhurst, 3.6 in La Grange Park, 3.8 in Darien, 5 in DuPage County, 7.9 in La Grange and 9.2 in Hinsdale.

Other suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 16.8 cases per thousand people.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 77,741, up 26 percent from a week earlier, which is exactly the rate of increase in Western Springs during the same time. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 3,406 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
