Western Springs Citizens Invited to Adopt a Cop for Torch Run

The Western Springs leg of the Torch Run will start on June 14, 2015, at 9 a.m. from the Tower Green.

Western Springs citizens and businesses are invited to support the Illinois Special Olympics by adopting a cop and donating to the Torch Run.

Members of the Western Springs Police Department will join 80,000 law enforcement officers in 50 states and 32 countries in carrying the Special Olympics flame over 50,000 miles, according to the village.

More than 20,000 Illinois residents with mental and physical limitations will continue to compete in 19 different Olympic-type sports through 175 annual statewide competitions.

The Special Olympics Program receives no federal funding and is funded solely by individual and corporate donations. This is the only solicitation members of the Western Springs Police Department participate in, and 100 percent of donations fund the athletic programs.

Donations are accepted at the police department at any time throughout the year.
