Western Springs Coronavirus: Case Count Edges Up By 2
Village's rate is considerably lower than nearby towns, statistics show.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw two more coronavirus cases among residents in the last week, according to Cook County Department of Public Health statistics. As of Sunday, the village had 16 cases, up from 14 a week earlier.
Western Springs' number works out to 1.2 cases per thousand people. That compares with with 2 per thousand in La Grange Park, 2.7 in Hinsdale, 2.8 in Clarendon Hills, 3.8 in Riverside and 4.4 in La Grange. The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 13.9 cases per thousand people.
Over the last week, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 11,688, a 48 percent increase from the previous week's 7,893. Deaths increased 47 percent to 482 in the last week. A total of 118 of those deaths have been in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. The county does not report deaths by municipality.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 43,903. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,933 Illinois residents.
