Western Springs Coronavirus: Low Rate Continues
Two more coronavirus cases reported in last week in Western Springs.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs continues to have a low rate of coronavirus cases compared to other suburbs. As of Sunday, it had 14 cases, two more than a week earlier, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
Western Springs' number works out to 1.1 cases per thousand people. That compares with 1.8 in La Grange Park, 2.2 in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, 3.2 in La Grange and 3.4 in Riverside. The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for instance, has 11.4 cases per thousand.
Over the last week, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 7,893, a 45 percent increase from the previous week's 5,512. Deaths increased 60 percent to 327 in the last week. Ninety-six of the deaths have been in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. The county does not report deaths by municipality.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was more than 30,000, but the number of additional deaths fell Sunday after several days of higher counts. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,290 Illinois residents, according to the state Department of Public Health.
