Western Springs Coronavirus Rate Steadies: County Figures

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw another week with five new coronavirus cases, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, the village had experienced 1,331 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic. For each of the last two weeks, Western Springs saw five new cases. That follows four weeks in the total case number did not budge.

The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at six. The latest deaths were reported May 31, May 11 and Nov. 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 53 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 99.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 83.8 in Darien, 88.9 in La Grange Park, 92.5 in DuPage County, 93.7 in Hinsdale, 95.2 in Elmhurst, 100.9 in Clarendon Hills, 102.9 in suburban Cook County, 106 in Burr Ridge and 122.2 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,407,929, up 0.4 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,401.

Nationally, 34.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 1.4 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 608,403 people have died from the virus in the United States.
