Western Springs' Keebler Tree Going For Sure: Village
Residents have expressed a sentimental attachment to the tree.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β The tree that resembles the one in the Keebler logo is going down for sure, the village says. It is set to be removed next Thursday.
In a Facebook post Thursday, the village announced the date of removal. The tree, which many residents hoped would stay, is at the southwest corner of Reid Street and Prospect Avenue.
Residents have expressed a sentimental attachment to the northern catalpa tree, which village officials estimate could be up to a century old.

Because the tree is under power lines, it has been regularly trimmed by ComEd. It is being removed as part of the Prospect Avenue road construction project. Officials said it likely would not survive the construction.
The village is looking at possible replacement trees.
