Western Springs Man Scammed Out Of $27K: Police

In another case, a woman was charged with forgery after trying to open a fraudulent bank account, authorities said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police have released their latest blotter. Here is information from the reports:

Scams

  • A resident in the 4100 block of Lawn Avenue told police Feb. 12 that he was scammed out of $27,000 over the phone. Last month, a 70-year-old resident reported to local police that she lost $100,000 to $200,000 in a scam that began at the Best Buy in Countryside.
  • A resident in the 4800 block of Fair Elms Avenue told police Feb. 8 about being scammed out of $1,200 over the phone.

  • Heartland Bank and Trust Co., 4456 Wolf Road, reported Feb. 12 that a woman attempted to fraudulently open an account. Janelle M. Woiwor, 40, of New Brighton, Minnesota, was arrested on charges of forgery and unlawful possession of a fraudulent identification card.
